The National Association of Social Workers – New York State Chapter (NASW-NYS) is joining with partners and allies nationwide on Saturday, June 30, for a rally and mobilization against the Trump Administration’s “Zero Tolerance” Family Separation Policy.
More than 2,300 immigrant children have been separated from their families at the border and the increasing number of separated and detained children has prompted a national backlash. Join allies from across the country this Saturday, June 30th, for a national protest and mobilization to combat family separation and detention caused by the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance policy.”
Strengthening families and providing family support are priorities of the social work profession. We believe removing a child from his or her parents should happen in extreme cases only, and the focus should be on family preservation and services to strengthen the family unit.
NASW opposed the administration’s practice of separating children from migrant and asylum-seeking families entering the United States and we are concerned that President Trump’s executive order does nothing to address what will happen to the 2,300 children who have already been separated and put in custody. We encourage all members and social workers to find and join an event near you at https://act.moveon.org/event/families-belong-together/
