Aging Committee:
The Committee on Aging was established in the early 1970’s. It has been a thriving committee with significant accomplishments. The committee provides an opportunity, in an informal setting, to collaborate and network with others in the field of aging, to access the most up-to-date information about trends and changes in the field, to learn about new resources and get support from other social workers. In addition, the committee plans yearly conferences for social workers and other professionals in the field of aging. It also develops and distributes materials and guides related to caring for seniors, both for professionals and the community. Metal Health Committee:
Mental Health Committee is presently under construction and is in need of social workers dedicated to the Mental Health profession. The Mental Health Committee’s goal is to provide informative programming on the most important issues facing Suffolk County. Veterans Committee:
The Veterans Committee is presently under construction and is in need of active social workers, dedicated to assisting the military and their families toward a successful transition into civilian life. In the past our programs were developed to bring current concerns of the military and their families to our members as well as to the community. Private Practice Committee:
The Private Practice Committee is a vibrant group dedicated to providing a community of peer support for clinically oriented social workers living or practicing in Suffolk County. Members include those who are planning to start a private practice, have already begun building a practice, or have an established practice. The needs of participants determine meeting content. The topics range from clinical case presentations to practical, ethical, and policy concerns. All meetings will be held at on Sundays from 12-2 pm @ The Bristal Assisted Living Facility in East Northport, located on 760 Larkfield Road East Northport, NY 11731. Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification (CNLI):
Committee members participate in annually developing at least a double slate of candidates for chapter elections that reflect the Association’s Diversity Plan, inform all candidates and appointees of the duties and responsibilities of office and are available to meet (via conference call or in person) as often as necessary to assure a sound nomination process. Cultural Competency Committee:
The Cultural Competency Committee presents a LA VISION Youth Conference every year for High School students at Stony Brook University together with the support of the Latin American Student Organization of Stony Brook University, NASW-Suffolk Division, NAPRHSW, Union Universitaria Latinamericana of Stony Brook University, Latin American Caribbean Studies Center of Stony Brook University and Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action of Stony Brook University. The committee meets every two weeks at Health Science Center 8th Floor Office of Pharmacology under the direction of Lynda Perdomo Ayala. LISSN Committee:
The LISSN Committee has been created as a forum for members to gather and engage in conversation, brainstorm ideas, share experiences, discuss employment and practice development opportunities, and relax while learning from various presentations on topics including but not limited to education and self-care. Various venues throughout Suffolk County will be introduced for our monthly meetings. LISSN is for the members to obtain the support and self-care often needed and so often put on the back burner.
