Winston A. Ross, 1989 National Social Worker of the Year, dies at 73

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Winston A. Ross, former NASW-NYS Westchester Division Director. Winston died at his home in Somers, New York, on Sunday, September 6, 2015. He was 73.

Winston A. Ross received his Bachelor’s degree from New York University and his Masters in Social Work from Columbia University. In 1989, Winston received the New York State and National Social Worker of the Year Award. He was the Executive Director for the Westchester Community Opportunity Program from 1984 – 2013. He was also the past president of the NAACP Yonkers branch, former chairperson of the New York State Social Work Board, and the past first vice president of the National Association of Social Workers. He has been recognized by local organizations for his active involvement in the community and championing of human rights.
