Licensure and Scope of Practice: Information for Social Work Students

We are often asked “what is the process of getting licensed once I graduate?" and "what is the difference between an LMSW and LCSW?" This program will outline the steps for new social work graduates (MSWs) to get licensure, as well as the differences in scope of practice between MSWs, LMSWs, and LCSWs. The presenters will discuss various aspects of the pathway to licensure, as well as various considerations along each step. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about the licensure process and scope of practice for social workers.

NASW-NYS is offering an online eight-hour licensing preparation class for the LMSW & LCSW exam. Open to students from all states, this test prep course is a recorded 8-hour presentation sent to your inbox as a recording with our extensive resource folder. Presented by two of the best instructors and test prep aficionados out there, this course not only dissects the exam but will also frame the test within the foundation of social work values and give you tools for grounding yourself before, during, and after the training. What makes our test prep different from the other options out there? Courses like this are all about who is presenting the content, and how they present it. Dr. Folusho and Dr. Kennedy are not only genuinely engaging and well versed in virtual learning, they have extensive experience real life in coaching students to reach their academic and licensure goals. This dynamic duo packs test tips and exercises into every minute of these eight hours, keeping your attention with ease and your eye on the prize. Most importantly, students and past test prep attendees evaluate them with excellent marks, with 100% of students saying they would take their classes again on Rate My Professor.
