Workshop Description
This suicide prevention course provides an overview of current statistics, evidence-based screening tools and interventions to assist professionals in providing more comprehensive care to individuals at risk of suicide. This course will also review development of safety plans and documentation.
Learning Objectives
After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Discuss current trends in suicide rates and attempts
- Increase knowledge of suicide screening tools
- Improve skills in assessment of suicide ideation with low to high risk
- Develop a safety plan founded on evidence-based practices

Golnaz Agahi, DSW, LCSW, MPH, has over 20 years of experience working in health and human services private and public sectors. Her area of administrative expertise is in program management, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Her clinical work, presentations and publications address the following areas: suicide prevention and treatment, alcohol and drug prevention and treatment, intimate partner violence, co-occurring disorders, stress management, leadership development, health outcome measure to improve health indicators. Also, she has over a decade of higher education teaching experience at University of Southern California and California State University, Fullerton, Schools of Social Work. Presently, Dr. Agahi is an Associate Professor and Assistant Field Director at UMass Global University, School of Social Work. In addition, she is the president of SocialWise Consulting, which provides an array of services critical to organizational development and sustainability; from use of evidence-based frameworks to plan, implement and evaluate programs to survey development, grant writing and delivery of behavioral health services. Dr. Agahi received her doctorate from University of Southern California, School of Social Work and holds dual master’s in Public Health and Social Work from San Diego State University.
