
From Theory to Practice: Understanding Attachment Types and Trauma-Informed Approaches
Workshop Description
This class provides an overview of Attachment Theory and its application in clinical practice with a trauma focus. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the different attachment types and how they manifest in therapeutic settings. The course will also emphasize trauma-informed approaches to working with clients, considering the impact of early attachment experiences on individuals’ well-being. Through a combination of theoretical insights, case studies, and practical strategies, participants will enhance their clinical skills and interventions to promote earned secure attachments and facilitate healing from trauma.
Learning Objectives
After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Define digital dating abuse and how it connects to larger systems of power and control.
- Describe the foundational principles of Attachment Theory and its relevance in clinical practice.
- Differentiate between secure and insecure attachment styles.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of different attachment types in clinical settings and understand their implications for treatment planning.
- Develop strategies for self-reflection and self-care to enhance the therapists’ own resilience in working with attachment and trauma-related issues.
Continuing Education Credits: 2.5 CE

Presenter: Erena DiGonis, LCSW-R
Erena DiGonis, LCSW-R is a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Health Coach, and Certified Clinical Anxiety and Trauma Treatment Professional. She is also certified in Brainspotting and trained in EMDR. Erena has twenty-three years of practical and professional experience as an active clinician, teacher, and supervisor. She has worked in a variety of community, psychiatric, in-home, and private practice settings with hundreds of complex cases.
Erena is a sought-after writer, speaker, and consultant and has been featured in Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, Psychology Today, Reader’s Digest, Women’s Health, and MEL magazine. She has reviewed book proposals for the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and is an Advisory Board Member for the CPTSD Foundation. Erena serves as the Founder and Continuing Education Director of EngagedMinds, a national Continuing Education business providing training for Counselors, Social Workers, and Therapists.

All refund requests must be submitted in writing to NSandul.naswnys@socialworkers.org no later than two business days prior to the workshop date. If you do not attend, you will be considered a ‘no-show.’
Refund emails must include the subject line “Refund Request” and the attendee’s name, workshop date, and title in the body of the email.
- All refunds are subject to a 20% administrative fee.
- Refund requests typically take 5 business days to process.
- No refunds for no-shows or partial participation.
- We do not issue credits or apply refunds to future courses.
- If NASW-NYS cancels the event, you will receive a full refund.
