Directions to 197 Half Hollow Road, Dix Hills:

From the Long Island Expressway, take Exit 50 and go North onto Bagatelle Road. Continue approximately one-half mile making a left turn at the traffic light onto Half Hollow Road. Proceed another one-half mile until you see the entrance to Sagamore on the right hand side of the road.

From the Northern State Parkway, take Exit 41 and go North on Wolf Hill Road to the first traffic left. Turn left at that light on to Carmen Road. Follow Carmen Road to the end and make a right turn on to Half Hollow Road. Go a short distance until you see the entrance to Sagamore on the right.

Trauma occurs as a result of violence, abuse, neglect, loss, disaster, and other emotionally harmful experiences. Treating trauma holistically through prevention, early identification and trauma specific assessment and treatment is by far the best approach. This workshop will address the special considerations in treating trauma such as assessment, establishing trust and safety, stages of healing, current trauma treatments/interventions, and developing trauma-informed practices. This training may be best suited for social workers in an organizational setting.

 

Learning Objectives:  

  • learn the definition of trauma informed care 
  • Understand the principles of trauma informed care
  • Be able to define complex trauma
  • Understand the difference between complex trauma and PTSD
  • Be introduced to the Adverse Childhood Experience Questionnaire and study
  • Differentiate complex trauma from personality disorders
  • Understand how trauma changes the brain
  • Engage complex trauma survivors
  • Establish trust and safety
  • Be able to work with people during all stages of healing

ABOUT THE PRESENTER 

Billye J. Jones, LCSW is an experienced clinician, supervisor, field instructor, administrator, program developer, and relationship builder. Billye incorporates her passion of child sexual abuse treatment, prevention and developing trauma informed programs in her multiple roles. She has performed extensive work with sexually abused children and adults as well as sexually reactive and aggressive youth.

In addition, Billye has trained therapists, students, parents, teachers, child welfare staff, attorneys, social workers and many others about issues relating to child sexual abuse. She was involved in all activities related to child sexual abuse prevention, which included panels, newspaper, radio, and television and even appeared in a documentary. Some of the topics of her trainings include: Treatment, Prevention; Identifying signs and symptoms; How to increase protective factors; Using the arts to break the silence around abuse; How to handle disclosure; How to safeguard a home after the occurrence of child sexual abuse; and the long term impact of childhood sexual abuse.

Billye has a Master of Social Work degree from New York University (NYU). She attained a Post Master’s Certificate in Clinical Practice from NYU, an Advanced Certificate Program in Non- profit management from New York Medical College/Fordham University. She is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) and has been a member of the National Ethics Committee for 8 years. Billye is the Co-chair of the Whitney M. Young Multicultural Affairs Committee (Westchester Division) and has been a member of the committee for 14 years.
