This workshop will cover legislative advocacy practice. It includes an overview of the branches of government at the federal and state level, the role of lobbying in social work macro practice, how the NASW Code of Ethics applies to legislative work, and the activities nonprofits can carry out in the political arena.
Learning Objectives:
After the completion of this webinar, participants will:
- Attendees will be able to apply community organizing theories
- Attendees will be able to apply social action theories
- Attendees will be able to formulate an action plan for community change

Rachel L. West, LMSW, holds a BA in History from SUNY Stony Brook and Masters in Social Work from Adelphi University. She is an ACOSA board member, Instructor at SUNY Stony Brook - School of Social Welfare, and founding #MacroSW chat partner. Since 2013, Rachel has provided consultation to social good organizations regarding advocacy and community outreach, as well as career coaching to macro practice social workers.
