WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This day long workshop will introduce participants to the world of gender identity and gender expression through several different lenses. Participants will be given an introduction in the ways of gender identity and gender variance expresses itself in children from earliest childhood through adolescence and the challenges that such children face. Participants will be given an introduction to psychosocial, health, medical issues, and interventions that are medically necessary for some transgender people. Following that segment participants will be given an introduction to understanding how gender dysphoria and gender variance expresses itself in adults and in adults who are aging with an overview of clinical treatment for transgender individuals. Throughout the presentation, the presenter will touch upon family and peer issues and be inclusive of the entire Trans* spectrum of experience including non-binary, genderqueer, and gender fluid individuals. The presenter folds into the entire workshop of the perspective of intersectionality of marginalization with respect to race, class, disability, and so on.
