WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
From Vicarious Trauma to Vicarious Transformation
Vicarious trauma is the conversion in the self of a trauma worker or therapist that results from empathetic engagement with traumatized clients and their reports of traumatic experiences. Over time this can lead to changes in workers psychological, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Vicarious transformation is the process of transforming ones vicarious trauma that can lead to personal and spiritual growth. This is a receptive, reciprocal process that conveys respect. Workers can learn and grow from their work with trauma survivors knowing that people can endure horrible things and still carry on.
Participants will:
- Develop an understanding of the definitions, causes, and consequences of vicarious trauma.
- Gain insight into reducing and managing the effects of vicarious trauma
- Understand how they can use vicarious trauma to vicariously transform
