Our communities and clients are facing major changes as a result of the current political climate in our country. This is an important time to develop better understanding of the need for systems advocacy and tools to engage in efforts to protect and serve our communities. Social Workers and other health and human service professionals have the opportunity and professional obligation to engage in such efforts to influence lasting systems change. Yet, many professionals and organizational leaders are not aware of the individual and organizational power they hold to engage in systems advocacy and instead rely only on membership associations and coalitions, or fail to engage in advocacy efforts at all.

This continuing education course focuses on the importance of building the capacity to engage in advocacy among health and human service professionals and the organizations in which they serve.

Learning objectives:

Participants will examine the various benefits of developing an advocacy infrastructure including opportunities to improve their credibility, relatability, and financial bottom line. Participants will review various models and discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with involving multiple stakeholders in the development and implementation of an advocacy infrastructure. Finally, participants will learn how to use various tools to support advocacy infrastructure development in their organization
