Workshop Description
With a growing population of immigrants and refugees in the country and around the globe, social workers need to be prepared to help meet the varied needs of immigrants and refugees. This workshop will start with a review of the history of immigration in the USA and how stigmas towards immigration for specific groups were created and are maintained. The presenter will describe the current and correct terms to use, struggles immigrants and refugees face, and theories that can help social workers  work with clients who have immigrant or refugee experience. In addition, this workshop will address the following questions: What are strategies and resources social workers can use to work with immigrants and refugees?; and how can social workers create programming that is built with immigrants in mind, to reach true inclusivity?

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1.    Define politically correct terms around immigration.
2.    Identify and describe policies that impact immigrants and refugees.
3.    Describe ways to integrate clinical theories to impact practice with immigrants in psychotherapy.

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.
