Workshop Description

Do you want to know what intersectionality is and how it applies to social work practice? Are you interested in going beyond the buzzword to understand its historical roots in Black Feminism and scholarship? This workshop will examine the application of intersectional frameworks to meet the needs of clients with multiple marginalized identities and complex systems barriers. The presenter will provide a case example in services for adults with serious mental illness and also allow time for participants to examine their own case scenario. This workshop is designed for participants to deepen their knowledge of both their own and clients’ social locations to more fully meet clients at their intersection.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze client needs within the context of intersecting systems of oppression
  • Describe the relevance of intersectionality theory to direct practice
  • Apply new knowledge of intersectionality theory to direct practice
  • Explain the meaning and historical origins of intersectionality theory

This workshop is approved for 3.0 continuing education credit hours.
