Workshop Description
In this hour long workshop, the presenter will review the guiding principles of trauma-informed care and universal precaution and ways it applies to the supervision of social work field internships. The presenter will facilitate dialogue on supervisory skills within the field practicum and how that differs from supervisory skills with employees. The workshop will then discuss trauma-informed approaches in practice with clients and compare them to how they implement them with their social work students. The presenter will provide evidence-based resources and strategies that participants can implement upon training completion.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1.    Describe ways to integrate trauma-informed themes into their supervision modalities to mitigate the risk of retraumatizing social work students that are under their guidance.
2.    Explain approaches to recognize trauma responses and examine how they can manifest into behaviors and practices within the field.
3.    Utilize the guiding values and principles of trauma-informed care (Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration, and Empowerment) to identify strategies they can implement within their scope of supervision
4.    Discuss ways to apply the concept of universal precaution to serve as a framework to integrate a human-rights and anti-oppressive perspective when employing trauma-informed approaches.
5.    Discuss and apply trauma-informed approaches within field supervision

This workshop is approved for 1.0 continuing education credit hours.
