Workshop Description
This training will help clinicians become more proficient with using the DSM-5 in their clinical practice. The content will include an in-depth review of the history of the DSM and a comphresenive exploration of multiple diagnoses, diagnostic criteria, and differential diagnosis. Finally, the benefits and the limitations of the current DSM model will be discussed.
Learning Objectives
After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
• Identify five benefits of the utilization of the DSM-5 within clinical practice.
• Identify five limitations of the utlization of the DSM-5 within clinical practice.
• Effectively use the DSM-5 within their clinical practice and accurately perform differential diagnosis

Brian M. Freidenberg, Ph.D., MA, MSW. Dr. Freidenberg is a New York State licensed psychologist who holds four degrees, one of which is an MSW. He operates his own private practice, lectures at UAlbany’s School of Social Welfare, and serves as the Addictive Behaviors Specialist at UAlbany’s Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Freidenberg has nearly 20 years of experience as a therapist and specializes in assessment (including ADHD and Autism Spectrum), addictions, anxiety, childhood and adolescence, trauma, grief, group therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He has served as Primary Investigator on three funded grants, including one that was funded by the U.S. Department of Education and one that was funded by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS). Dr. Freidenberg supervises 5 licensed therapists and has authored 17 peer-reviewed journal articles and 7 book contributions.
