Workshop Description

This course employs an iterative learning process that engages Social Workers with a complex social issue personally relevant to them. This approach acknowledges the inherent complexity ("messy reality") of social issues. The presenter will describe analytical tools used to critically examine real-world experiences, outlining an iterative process for participants to continuously refine their understanding and utilize experimental approaches to develop effective solutions. This ongoing cycle of reflection, analysis, and action fosters lifelong learning and promotes the development of impactful interventions.

This course is designed for Social Work professionals in a range of work contexts including: supervision, management, leadership, government, hospitals, schools, and nonprofits; as well as a variety of community settings, from urban to rural. The presenter will describe valuable insights into harnessing the inherent influence of social work, and ways social workers can to create an empowering environment to enact meaningful change within their communities.  

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe ways to apply evidence-based and validated problem-solving techniques to intricate social problems within their workplace and/or community.
  • Describe skills and strategies to articulate issues to influential stakeholders.
  • Explain, with a critical examination, power dynamics within social contexts, encompassing concepts such as empathy and compassion, as well as ways to mobilize individuals and foster collaborative efforts to address complex issues.
  • Describe ways to apply principles grounded in transformational leadership and emotional intelligence, to enhance their capacity to effect transformative changes within their spheres of influence.

This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.
