This course provides an introductory understanding of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals overcome the impact of traumatic experiences and other distressing life events. The course will describe the origins of EMDR therapy, what it is, and how it works to reprocess past disturbing events, current triggers, and prepare for future situations. This course, will discuss the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) as a theoretical model that explains EMDR therapy treatment effects, directs the therapeutic process, and predicts outcomes. Additionally, this course will provide a general overview of the eight phases of EMDR including a brief description of goals and procedures.
