Workshop Description
This program will review the foundations of cognitive and behavioral therapy in the treatment of depression, including describing practical cognitive based skills to identify, challenge and respond to negative and depressive thinking. Application of these techniques will be emphasized and participants will have the opportunity to practice utilizing these skills. The facilitator will also discuss the foundations of behavior activation therapy for depression and ways to implement this useful treatment. This workshop will provide useful cognitive and behavioral skills that social workers and clinicians can implement in their work with clients who experience depression.

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1.    Describe the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression
2.    Explain clinical definition of depression, 
3.    Explain how to identify when clients meet diagnostic criteria for depression
4.    Identify the assessment tools that can be utilized to assist in this process.
5.    Describe ways to apply cognitive techniques in the treatment of clients who are depressed
6.    Describe ways to utilize behavior activation therapy in the treatment of clients who are depressed

Andrew Schmidt, PhD, LCSW-R. Dr. Schmidt specializes in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety, Trauma and Depression. He is a highly skilled Cognitive Behavior Therapist (CBT) and has extensive training with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and other exposure based approaches. As Professor and Director of the Post-Masters CBT Certificate Program at New York University (NYU), Dr. Schmidt is always up to date with the newest and latest therapy techniques. Dr. Schmidt also trains and supervises other therapists in CBT based approaches. He brings this and more than 15+ years of experience to best help the patients he works with.
