Workshop Description
Social workers in various settings are often called on to engage in difficult ethical decision making. This workshop will define and describe ethics, and discuss the stages of moral development. In addition, the workshop will discuss situations that are difficult to identify ethical standards, and historical approaches to ethical decision making. Utilizing this foundation of information, the workshop will provide steps for the development of a personal ethical approach.
Learning Objectives
After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Define ethics and describe what ethics is and is not.
2. Explain the stages of ethical (moral) development.
3. Discuss why it is difficult to identify and apply ethical standards.
4. Describe steps to develop a personal approach to ethical decision making.

Ed Gerarty, LCSW. Ed Geraty LCSW-C (MD , LICSW (WV), LCSW (VA) , LICSW (DC) has been in private and organizational social work practice for thirty years. He is the former Director of Professional Development for the NASW-MD chapter and currently a Board member of the Greater Washington Society for Clinical Social Work. He has presented workshops on ethics to local and national organizations.
