Workshop Description

Food as a Gateway to Transformation is a 3-hour live webinar for therapists who wish to specialize or enhance their skills in working with people to transform their relationship with food. Many of us and many of our clients have food issues and we have trouble helping them. This course will help you increase your knowledge around food as a substance used to medicate and or manage many everyday situations. In this training, participants will learn about mindful eating techniques to assist clients on their journey with food. The course will be a combination of experiential and didactic learning around our meaning of food and how it affects our lives and our client’s lives. Theories around habit change, neuroscience theory, and the role of food will be addressed. Mindfulness techniques will be offered as well as an increased understanding of the issues behind the use/misuse of food. Different theoretical perspectives in the field will discussed.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Increase understanding of the meaning of food and why people use food to self-soothe.
  • Utilize tools and methods to help your clients address underlying causes of their food issues.
  • Develop competence to help clients use their food struggles as a gateway to life changes.
  • Increase skill set to improve clients’ abilities to manage feelings and situations without food.
  • Identify the skills and techniques of mindful eating.
  • Describe the different approaches and philosophies in the field of mindful eating and discuss how they impact clinical interventions.
