Workshop Description
ADHD rarely travels alone. Comorbid disorders are quite common, but ADHD often does not receive adequate diagnosis or clinical appreciation. Untreated ADHD will exacerbate symptoms and undermine treatment of the comorbid disorder. Various comorbid disorders and issues will be discussed, including Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Suicide, Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Disorders (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Hoarding Disorder, Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors, Body Dysmorphic Disorder), Obesity, and Eating Disorders. The presentation will include differential diagnosis of the conditions, overlapping symptoms, potential for misdiagnosis, clinical presentation and treatment interventions when people have both ADHD and another condition.
Learning Objectives
After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the differences between symptoms of ADHD and mood disorder symptoms.
2. List how having ADHD places someone at higher risk for suicide.
3. Recite the ways ADHD can be missed or undiagnosed in OCD patients.
4. Explain the various reasons people with ADHD are at higher risk for obesity
5. Discuss why people with ADHD engage in body focused repetitive behaviors.

Dr. Roberto Olivardia is a Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Associate at McLean Hospital and Lecturer in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Lexington, Massachusetts, where he specializes in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He also specializes in the treatment of eating disorders in boys and men. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Olivardia is an active researcher. He is co-author of The Adonis Complex, a book which details the various manifestations of body image problems in males. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board for ADDitude Magazine, a publication serving the needs of individuals with ADHD and Learning Disabilities, as well as sits on the Professional Advisory Boards for Children and Adults with ADHD (CHADD), the Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA), and is a Featured Expert for Understood. He presents at many conferences, podcasts and webinars around the country.
