Workshop Description
This course provides an introduction to cultural and treatment consideration when utilizing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy with Latinx and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) clients. Participants will explore the intersectionality of culture, identity, and trauma within these communities. Emphasis is placed on understanding historical and systemic factors that might influence the experiences of Latinx and BIPOC individuals. This course will include discussion of the diverse array of cultural beliefs, practices, and values these groups may hold, and challenges, strengths, and opportunities in the reprocessing of trauma using EMDR therapy. This course will provide attendees with practical ideas and interventions to honor clients' cultural backgrounds and unique needs, while fostering trust, empowerment, and healing within the therapeutic relationship.
