Workshop Description
This workshop is a call to recognize and celebrate the invaluable roles women have played in shaping the history and development of social work, while acknowledging the existing gap in available literature and the importance of rectifying this omission. Throughout the history of social work, women have made remarkable and lasting contributions to the profession. They have played instrumental roles in advocacy, policy development, community engagement, and the overall advancement of social welfare. However, a glaring gap exists in the literature and discourse surrounding these women pioneers. Their stories, accomplishments, and challenges remain largely undocumented and overlooked. This workshop will address this knowledge deficit and the resulting imbalance in historical representation.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the significant contributions made by women pioneers in the field of social work, including their roles in advocacy, policy development, and community engagement.

2. Explain the historical and contemporary challenges faced by women in social work and how these challenges have shaped the profession.

3. Identify the importance of including women's contributions in the history of social work, as well as the broader implications for promoting gender equality and diversity within the profession.

4. Describe the unique perspectives and insights that women bring to the field of social work and how these perspectives enrich practice and scholarship.

5. Identify ways to advocate for the recognition of women's contributions in social work as well as ways to promote inclusivity and diversity within the profession.

Dr. s. Rasheem, MNM, PhD. S. Rasheem is an independent Scholar and Social Scientist whose scholarship encourages a critical examination of society and culture through the lens of race, gender, and class. Her educational background is interdisciplinary, and includes a Bachelor's degree in Social Science, a minor in Sociology, a Masters’ in Nonprofit Management and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work. She has been a Principal Investigator on at least five different qualitative research initiatives and has spoken on the topic of equity at over 30 academic and professional conferences.
