Workshop Description
Black Leaders: Using Our Authentic Voices provides an opportunity for African Descended/Black individuals to address racial trauma and how we have internalized white supremacist messages that prevent us from speaking our truths and stopping harm by white colleagues. This course will guide participants in the skills to tap into the strength and power within our DNA, inherited from our ancestors. The workshop will explore Dr. Kenneth Hardy’s Privilege and Subjugated Task (PAST) Model, specifically focusing on the Tasks of the Subjugated. The presenter will guide participants to develop an understanding of “authentic voice,” by identifying helpful language when using their authentic voices and creating space to practice using authentic voice responses based on real life scenarios.

Note: This is a space specifically by and for Black social workers and social workers who experience racism. 
Course is limited to a maximum of 30 registrants. Registration is currently open and is first come first serve. 
 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

1. Describe racial stress/trauma and how Black people in America have been taught to internalize harm committed by white colleagues, supervisors, & administrators

2. Recognize and discuss when & how we perpetuate that harm to ourselves

3. Describe ways to tap into the internal power and strength inherited from our ancestors    

4. Explain how to identify each person’s authentic voice 

5. Identify ways to practice applying one’s authentic voice in various situations

Tracey Rollins Spann, LMSW is passionate about using her energy to influence and shepherd individuals and organizations to discover, develop, and amplify their potential to positively impact the world in which we live. Thus, in 2017, driven by her passion for organizational development and efficiency, Tracey founded TRS Consulting Group, LLC to guide individuals, non-profits, social enterprises, and government entities to ensure they remain mission driven, culturally responsive, and impactful. Tracey completed the National Association of Black Social Workers’ National Academy for African Centered Social Work, and Undoing Racism® by The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond. It was through these courses that Tracey really began to understand how deeply systemic racism and oppression impact people and communities of color in the United States and abroad. She is committed to helping organizations and individuals understand what it means to be anti-racist, and how they can shift their thinking and practice to truly provide equitable opportunities and programs. Tracey believes in the power of UBUNTU – “I am because we are, and because we are, therefore, I am”. Our connectedness to one another makes us who we are. Without one another, we would not be able to accomplish our goals. By combining the strength of Ubuntu, the knowledge provided by comprehensive and accurate data, well developed operational systems, accountability, and thoughtful, focused decision-making, we can move mountains.
