Description:
Attendees will learn about NYS private adoption home study regulations (private agency and private placement adoption) and best practices for working with prospective adoptive parents. Presentation will include information on the scope of home studies, home study topics, and educating prospective adoptive parents on adoption issues. Training will include discussion on what to do when applicants present concerns as well as business practices for being an independent home study preparer. Please Note: To be a home study provider in NYS an individual must be a LMSW, LCSW, Probation Officer, or an authorized agency employee. 

 

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of this webinar, participants will:

  • learn and be able to list societal adoption beliefs and adoption practices that negatively impact adoption triad members.
  • be able to identify NYS adoption regulations on who can do a home study and topics covered in adoption homes studies
  • be able to identify the differences between doing a home study for an adoption agency and a private placement home study preparer
  • learn regulations on who is included home study interviews
  • learn about the scope of the assessment nature of evaluating prospective adoptive parents and what to do when an applicant presents a concern
  • learn about how to use home study interviews as a means to educate prospective adoptive parents on adoption issues

This workshop is approved for 2.5 continuing education credit hours.

Marie Dolfi, LCSW is an adoption constellation therapist, advocate, and trainer. After working as a clinian in inpatient and outpatient settings, Marie decied to specialize her private practice to working with adoption constellation members and prospective adoptive parents.
