Workshop Description

This course is designed for beginner-intermediate social workers interested in learning more about the use of Hospice and Palliative Care for clients with life limiting illnesses. The course will also discuss the role of the social worker in end of life care and will address the appropriate use of each program. NASW Standards for Palliative and End of Life Care will also be reviewed. 

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the role of the Social Worker in End of Life Care.
  • Describe the difference between Hospice and Palliative Care Programs.
  • Make an appropriate referral to Hospice or Palliative Care.
  • Determine patients that could benefit from Hospice or Palliative Care.

This workshop is approved for 3.0 continuing education credit hours.

Melissa Wombwell-Twersky, MSW, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working in the field of geriatric social work for the last 24 years with an emphasis on hospice for the last 15 years. Melissa received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from West Chester University in 1997 and received her master’s degree in Social Work from Temple University in 2002. Melissa is certified as an Advanced Social Worker in Gerontology and was recently certified as an Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Social Worker from the National Association of Social Workers where she has been a member for the past 24 years. Melissa is a member of the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Work where she serves on the Managers and Supervisors Sub-Committee. Melissa also offers clinical supervision to social workers studying for their clinical social work license.
