Workshop Description
Working with child clients can be extremely rewarding, but also challenging in ways not experienced when working exclusively with adults. This training explores the ethical obligations of mental health professionals, specifically through the special considerations that need to be made when serving children and adolescents. Special attention will be paid to concerns related to boundaries and confidentiality. The impact of technology and social media on these complications will be highlighted.
Learning Objectives
After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Describe the ethical and legal responsibility of professionals to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with the child clients.
- Describe the ethical and legal responsibility of professionals to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with parents/caretakers of child clients.
- Explain the limits of confidentiality as they relate to the clinical relationship with child clients.
- Apply a framework for informed consent with child clients appropriate to the developmental realities of the individual client.
- Apply a framework for informed consent with the parent(s)/caretaker(s) of child clients appropriate to the realities of that client’s situation.
Continuing Education Credits: 3.0
This workshop is approved for licensed social workers, licensed mental health counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists, and licensed psychologists.

Kathryn Krase, Ph.D., J.D., M.S.W., Principal Consultant with Krase Consultant, is an expert on the professional ethics, and the intersection of ethics with legal responsibilities. She has years of experience consulting with government and community based organizations to develop policy & practice standards.

Refund emails must include the subject line “Refund Request” and the attendee’s name, workshop date, and title in the body of the email.
