The majority of people experiencing homelessness we encounter are living with the impact of traumatic events. Trauma is often mistaken for resistance and non-compliance, which may impact how we work with our clients. People experiencing trauma can be better assessed, engaged, and supported during times of homelessness using specific interventions taught in this session. This workshop will address assessment, establishing trust and safety, and interventions that may help our clients deal with trauma triggers.

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of this webinar, participants will learn:

  • How a history of trauma can lead to homelessness
  • The most common types of traumatic experiences homeless clients experience
  • Understand some principals of trauma-informed care
  • How to recognize trauma triggers
  • How to de-escalate trauma triggers when dealing with clients

This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.
