March 30, 2018 @ 11:45 AM - 12:00 PM
The Capitol Pressroom Radio Interview: NASW-NYS Executive Director, Samantha Howell, Esq., and NASW-NYC President, Candida Brooks-Harrison, LCSW, on licensure exemption and improving the quality of mental health care for all New Yorkers.
NASW-NYS Executive Director, Samantha Howell, Esq., and NASW-NYC President, Candida Brooks-Harrison, LCSW, will be guests on The Capitol Pressroom today (Friday, March 30) at 11:45AM. Be sure to listen as they discuss the importance of ending a licensure exemption that has allowed seven state agencies to hire unlicensed employees — despite not having the same extensive education and external legal standards of professional conduct as licensed practitioners — to provide mental health services, including the diagnosis and treatment of serious mental illnesses.
Ending this 14-year exemption is a strong step toward improving the quality of New York’s mental health care by ensuring all New Yorkers have access to a licensed mental health provider — regardless of whether they are accessing services through state agencies or private insurance.
