The transition from the DSM IV-TR has been challenging for many providers and clinicians. This workshop provides the audience with clear information regarding DSM 5. In depth and comprehensive information will be provided on the major changes in the DSM 5; the changes in the threshold for some categories and the strengths/areas in need of improvement in the DSM-5.  

 

Learning Objectives:

The training will:

  • Educate social workers on the major changes in the DSM 5 pertaining to diagnoses; threshold, new/removed diagnosis
  • Discuss how to help colleagues and clients understand the changes
  • Review social work’s role in the utilization of the DSM 5
  • Address issues around insurance reimbursement and billing using the DSM-5

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.


NASW-NYS is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers (Provider ID #0014), licensed mental health counselors (Provider ID #MHC-0053), and licensed marriage and family therapists. Dr. Folusho Otuyelu, PhD, LCSW is an Assistant Professor at the Touro College School of Social Work and Director of Quality Assurance-Consultant for the Functional Family Therapy program at Children’s Aid Society (CAS). She has over 17 years of experience in direct practice and supervision working with children and families, and has held multiple supervisory level positions in child welfare and children mental health. Dr. Otuyelu is a member of several child welfare and children’s mental health councils in New York City, and continues to work collaboratively with NYC-Administration for Children’s Services towards improving child well-being and staff competencies. In 2014, she received the NASW-NYC Social Work Image Award in Direct Practice.
