Best Practices in Field Education:
Providing field education for social work students achieves numerous goals; it ensures the development of the next generation of social workers and it enables professional development for social workers as teaching practice requires articulation of the concepts, principles, and skills that constitute effective practice. This supports the adage that the best way to learn is to teach.
This workshop will provide participants with new knowledge about social work practice and education for practice. Participants will learn strategies to promote safe learning environments through effective student supervision resulting in positive student learning outcomes. These strategies are also applicable to supervision of licensed master social workers and licensed clinical social workers.
This event is NYSED approved for continuing education contact hours for licensed social workers. Provider ID #0014.

Biography:
Marion Bogo teaches direct clinical social work practice and the theory and practice of social work education. Her research interests focus primarily on competency for professional practice including social work education and clinical social work supervision. In her research, she has developed and tested field education models and innovative approaches to assessment of student and practitioner competence.

‘Professor Marion Bogo has been recognized for her far-reaching impact on the practice and teaching of social work. She is highly regarded for her extensive work in curriculum design for social work programs, notably in the area of field education. She is also a pioneer in developing standardized evaluation methods, which are used by instructors worldwide to assess professional competency. She continues to share her expertise with schools of social work across Canada and beyond our borders. Few other social work scholars parallel her commitment to conceptualizing social work education for social work practice, and consistently over decades, maintaining this central focus in their research and scholarship, professional achievement and community service.’
