Part One
Keynote Presenter: Marie-Genevieve Iselin, Ph.D
Presenters: Marie- Genevieve Iselin, Ph.D., Senior Psychologist in the Geriatric Psychiarty Program at Zucker Hillside Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Northwell Health.

Description:
The program is an education conference for social work and other health care professionals to explore and discuss aging, its varying perspectives and challenges including living and coping with chronic illness. This conference is a three-part program. Part one will define chronic illness, its effects on mental and behavioral health, coping strategies and work with clients. Part two will explore treatment for chronic illness, discussion of current therapeutic treatments for pain management and alternative therapeutic treatments. Part three will provide a social work perspective on substance abuse and aging.

Part Two

Presenters: Eric Leung, MD, Attending Physician at Northwell Health- Long Island Jewish, North Shore Hospital Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Description:
Dr. Leung will share his expertise on pain management and treatment for chronic illness. He will discuss ethical practices to patients with severe and or chronic pain. This will include current therapeutic treatments and alternative treatments offered to patients with chronic illnesses and chronic pain associated with these illnesses. .

Part Three

Presenters: Melissa Coscia, LCSW, Director of Clinical Operations at Family Service League.

Description:
Melissa Coscia, LCSW will present the third and final part of the conference program. Ms. Coscia will be presenting a social work perspective on substance abuse and the aging. She will be using research-based information on substance abuse and substance related disorders in adults 60 and older. Lecture will provide clinical diagnosis and treatment of substance related and addictive disorders. Lecture will include social work practice, ethics and clinical interventions in working with older adults with substance abuse and addictive disorders. .

This workshop is approved for 4.0 continuing education credit hours.


NASW-NYS is recognized by the New York State Education Department’s State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers (Provider ID #0014), licensed mental health counselors (Provider ID #MHC-0053), and licensed marriage and family therapists. Key Note Presenter: Marie-Genevieve Iselin, PHD is a Senior Psychologist in the Geriatric Psychiatry Program at Zucker Hillside Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Northwell Health and is an Assistant Professor at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She received a MA in Philosophy from the Universite de Geneva, Switzerland, a MA in General Psychology from the New School for Social Research, NY and her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Clark University, MA. She is the Faculty Lead for the Interpersonal Therapy Training Program for 4th year residents and psychology trainees at Zucker-Hillside Hospital. From 2011-2017, she was a consultant for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Central Office and helped train many VA psychotherapists across the United States. She has published journal articles and book chapters on Interpersonal Psychotherapy for older adults, as well as on reasoning and personal epistemology. Dr. Iselin’s areas of expertise include Geropsychology, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Eric Leung, MD is an Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Zucker School of Mediciine at Northwell/Hofstra. His faculty teaching positions include: Faculty Course Director- Musculoskeletal Ultrasound, Faculty Physician - Pain Management, Faculty Supervisor - Low Back Anatomy and Faculty Supervisor - Pain Management Educational Block. Dr. Leung is an Attending Physician of Pain Management, Musculloskeletal Medicine, and Supportive Oncology with Northwell Health at - Long Island Jewish, North Shore Hospital Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Southside Hospital Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Glen Cove Hospital Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Melissa Coscia, LCSW is the Director of Clinic Operations with Family Service League. Within Family Service League, she is responsible for the management and supervision of Clinic Programs which includes OHM Licensed Programs, OASAS Licensed Programs and grant funded programs. Her role includes promoting staff development in-services and training programs. She serves as liaison between community, county, licensing agencies, referral sources and the agency. She collects and monitors program statistics for review and analysis of program productivity, fiscal viability and utilization of resources.
