Workshop Description

No culture is a monolith, therefore, understanding the multitude of differences and nuances that exist within your client’s culture, especially if it differs from your own, is critical to offering clients culturally-focused care. Similarly, having clinicians that reflect the population they serve and who are part of that community is critical. This session will focus on that crucial component of culturally-focused care by addressing ways clinicians can best support Latinx clients, particularly women, in their community. This session will also address what it means to be a part of community, and how culture can be expressed, specifically within Latinx and Hispanic populations. Additionally, there will be a focus on addressing power dynamics that exist within clinical settings, and how they can be addressed. This training adds a much-needed dimension to providing mental healthcare to Latinx, Hispanic women and building inclusive spaces for their experiences.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the complex and unique experiences of Latinx and Hispanic clients
  • Identify how to address Latinx and Hispanic clients’ needs through a culturally-focused, and culturally humble lens
  • Examine how power dynamics present in clinical settings, and identify ways to address them to further along the therapeutic relationship

This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.
