Workshop Description
Healthy democracies, where people vote in higher numbers, lead to healthy communities because elected officials are accountable to voters. This session will present voting as a social determinant of health and intervention in social work practice; the benefits of voting to individuals, communities, and organizations; the negative outcomes associated with low voter turnout; and ways social workers can support the voting rights and political power of the clients, staff, and the communities we serve.
Learning Objectives
After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Voting as a social determinant of health.
- The importance of local and state elections to racial, economic, political and social justice movements
- Nonpartisan voter engagement as an important and powerful intervention for all social workers.
- Easy ways social workers can integrate nonpartisan voter registration, education and outreach into their organizations and/or practice legally, ethically, and effectively.
This workshop is approved for 1.0 continuing education credit hours.
