Workshop Description
Food issues are prevalent and pervasive, and social workers need to be prepared to engage competently with clients experiencing food-related stressors.  This course will describe ways that food  can be treated as a substance used to medicate and manage many everyday situations.  The presenter will explain mindful eating techniques to assist clients on their journey with food.  The course will feature a combination of experiential and didactic learning around cultural and individual meanings of food and how it affects everyone, and particularly the lives of clients experiencing issues with food.  Theories around habit change, neuroscience theory, and the role of food will be addressed.  The presenter will describe ways effective mindfulness techniques can address the issues behind the use/misuse of food.
