Workshop Description

Grieving a loss can be challenging for most of us under “normal” circumstances. Working with adults grieving losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic can present us with new and greater challenges as we collectively experience an unprecedented sense of fear and vulnerability. This session will cover the fundamental aspects of working with adults experiencing loss and grief and highlight the complications of grieving during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants will be provided tools to help identify and understand the complex nature of grief, criteria for determining healthy vs. unhealthy coping, interventions for addressing this level of grief with examples from practice, interventions to address the various types of grief and loss clients will experience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including loss of loved ones, co-workers, and non-human losses, such as loss of social and physical contact, loss of work and financial security, loss of structure and sense of certainty. Clinical interventions presented will include use of EMDR, EFT, hypnotherapy, grounding exercises and mindfulness.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will:

  • Define and understand grief in terms of multiple layers of loss in the context of COVID-19
  • Identify theoretical grief models and describe multiple types of grief
  • Distinguish between healthy and unhealthy coping with grief
  • Formulate grief-informed intervention strategies to respond to the impacts of loss due to COVID-19
