Workshop Description

This two hour training will begin by discussing the theory and development of an energy psychology method - Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) – a body based intervention that integrates the energy meridian system of the body with a cognitively focused affirmation to reduce psychological distress. Developed and used for over 25 years, this technique has been shown to quickly reduce anxiety and process traumatic material.

This training will discuss the role of the limbic brain and a rationale for integrating body based interventions such as acupressure and eye movements. The clinical applications and clinical cautions, especially regarding eye movements, will also be discussed. Practitioners will learn a very simple acupressure technique that they can safely use immediately in their practice with anxious clients and also to prevent therapist burnout during these especially stressful times. As many clinicians are aware, clients are finding themselves anxious and distressed especially with the lack of predictability, and the fear of death inherent in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • State the area of the brain responsible for limbic activation and the impact on the client’s ability to be rational.
  • State one reason why the use of eye movements might be re-triggering for clients.
  • Utilize the tapping protocol in practice with anxious clients. •Identify common triggers clients may experience during the current pandemic crisis and describe how the use of tapping protocol can ease those triggers.
  • Describe how tapping along with the client can help reduce and prevent therapist burn-out.

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.
