Workshop Description

This webinar-based workshop focuses on the development of an action plan and the role it plays in organizing advocacy work on behalf of clients and communities. Participants will learn about the formulation of an action plan and learn effective tools and resources utilized in formulating an Action Plan. At the end of the webinar attendees will be able to integrate an action plan into their advocacy work for clients and assess its value in their advocacy for change.  

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe key components needed to formulate an Action Plan including setting objective goals and identifying needed resources to create community change.
  • Develop engagement skills utilized in implementing an Action plan for use in working with stakeholders and the target audience.
  • Describe key performance measurement tools utilized to evaluate an implemented Action Plan for future advocacy work.
  • Develop needed communication skills to bring change to broader population

This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.

Rachel West, LMSW, holds a Bachelors of History from SUNY Stony Brook University and a Masters in Social Work from Adelphi University, School of Social Work. She has been a Licensed Master Social Worker in New York State since 2008. In 2012, Rachel founded The Political Social Worker, a blog dedicated to community practice social work and politics. She has presented at UConn’s NAHIPSW Campaign School, where she lectured on the role of social media in political campaigns. She has also presented workshops on being a political social worker at SUNY Stony Brook, School of Social Welfare’s Advocacy Day. From 2015-2018, Rachel was a Clinical Instructor at SUNY Stony Brook University School of Social Welfare teaching Advanced Social Work Macro Practice I & II. Rachel is currently in her 2nd term as Northeast Reprehensive on the Association for Community Organization and Social Action (ACOSA). She also continues to serve on the ACOSA Awards Committee and Chair of the Communications Committee and is a member of the NASW-NYS AGR Committee. Rachel began providing consultation to nonprofits and private practices in 2013 and her practice focuses on issues related to advocacy and community outreach, including the use of social media as a community organizing tool. In addition to her consultancy work with organizations, she offers career coaching and training to macro social workers. In 2014, Rachel was one of the founding #MacroSW Twitter Chat Partners. In 2018 #MacroSW incorporated as a benefits corporation in New York State. She currently serves as the Board President and Director of Administration for MACROSW, INC.
