This presentation will focus on the role of social workers in addressing the needs of immigrants. Immigrants often face a host of challenges in coming to the U.S. seeking safety and economic opportunity, but discriminatory policies over the past two years have added toxic levels of stress, especially to children, youth and families seeking asylum. This presentation will focus on the activities that social workers can engage in to protect immigrant rights and promote the health and wellbeing of asylum seeking children, youth and families.
Learning Objectives:
After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify immigration statuses for work with immigrant children, youth and adults, especially for refugees and asylum seekers.
- Assess the mental health care needs of immigrant children, youth and adults by applying the trauma informed care social work model
- Conduct mental health evaluations to support asylum seekers in their attempts to be approved for asylum
This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.
