Social workers practicing in facilities and programs operated, certified, or licensed by OPWDD, OMH, OASAS, OCFS, and DOH need to be prepared to handle an investigation by the New York State Justice Center. This workshop provides an overview of the investigation process, including risks, challenges, and best practices. 

 

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of this webinar, participants will:

  • Learn the role and history of the New York State Justice Center;
  • understand the investigation process, including your rights and obligations;
  • understand the risks and challenges of a Justice Center investigation and how they affect professionals;
  • learn best practices for working with the Justice Center and surviving the investigation process.

This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.

Dena DeFazio, JD, LMSW, graduated summa cum laude from Albany Law School and received her M.S.W. from the University at Buffalo. She has served as an Albany County Family Court law clerk to Judge Susan Kushner, and intern in Albany Law’s Government Law Center and Health Law Clinic.

 

Bob Hussar, JD, MS, has more than 20 years of experience providing counsel to clients on regulatory, compliance, licensure, and reimbursement issues, including self-disclosures, audit defense, and Justice Center matters. A partner at Barclay Damon, Bob previously served as the First Deputy for the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General.
