Providing culturally competent and affirming mental health and medical care for transgender people requires a specific knowledge base. This workshop will offer solid tools to provide best practices and cultivate transgender affirming care. Exploration of the components of gender identity will equip participants with language, knowledge, and assessment skills.
After the completion of this webinar, participants will:
- Recognize personal bias and perceptions of sex and gender to provide more affirming care for vulnerable transgender clients.
- Differentiate between sex assigned at birth, gender identity, gender role expression and sexual orientation in order to assert cultural competence when exploring a client’s identity.
Assess gender and body dysphoria to appropriately evaluate clients seeking medical and surgical transition.
- Recognize specific mental health issues and health disparities facing transgender individuals.
This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.
