Workshop Description
This workshop on “Expressive Therapy Techniques” will provide an overview of cutting-edge treatment practices that are effective in working with people suffering with complex symptoms, such as thought fixation, moral injury, emotional dysregulation, sleep disturbance, anxiety, disempowerment, and hyperarousal. A wide variety of treatment techniques and approaches will be introduced, and some demonstrated, including: art therapy, storyboarding, and cinematherapy. Hands-on experientials will include CBT techniques and creative approaches to identity building. Participants will learn and experience first-hand a number of clinical, prevention, and screening techniques that they will be able to use in their daily practices when they return back to work, plus others that they might wish to pursue through ongoing training. Theoretical approaches to expressive therapies will be outlined. Benefits of expressive therapies will be outlined, such as the use of metaphor, therapeutic triangulation, validation, externalization, and emotional catharsis. Right hemisphere brain processing will be outlined, as a way to explain the effectiveness of visual and sensory techniques in treating stress and trauma. Other benefits of expressive therapies will be reviewed, such as improving communication, lowering stress, developing insight, increasing motivation, building connections, formulating identity, and managing symptoms.

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of this webinar, participants will:

  • Correlate 3 clinical applications of Expressive Therapy techniques with specific symptoms/diagnoses.
