Workshop Description
Anxiety disorders and the most common mental illness in the United States. This workshop will distinguish the difference between Panic Attacks, Panic Disorder, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Speaker will discuss triggers and factors that contribute to panic, as well as anticipatory anxiety and phobic avoidance. Statistics related to Anxiety. Disorders will be outlined. A list of phobias will be outlined, differentiating diagnostic criteria between them, as well as effective treatment practices for each. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder will also be discussed, particularly the anxiety components of each. Mindfulness techniques will be outlined, as they relate to effective treatment of panic. Worry and thought reprocessing through mindfulness will be discussed. Short and long-term action plans for reducing the risk of panic will be examined. Groups will be asked to learn how to implement mindfulness practices experientially. Participants will be able to define panic triggers, and therapeutic techniques for managing them. Biological reactions to stress and anxiety will be outlined, such as brain chemistry, metabolic reactions, and sympathetic response. Participants will learn skills to assist clients in managing a range of anxiety symptoms and disorders. Therapeutic practices will be reviewed, such as CBT, Prolonged Exposure, Desensitization, Mindfulness, Expressive Therapy, DBT, and Cognitive Reprocessing. 

 

Learning Objectives:

After the completion of this webinar, participants will:

  • be able to DIFFERENTIATE Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, and Panic Attacks.
  • be able to DESCRIBE how the mind and body react to panic.
  • be able to IDENTIFY mindfulness techniques and how they work for panic.
  • be able to EXPLAIN strategies to attain short and long-term peace from panic.
  • be able to DEFINE panic triggers.

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.

Ayniimage-20190508130737-1.pngsa Leonardo is a Licensed Clinical Art Therapist (LCAT, ATR-BC), who has been in the field of mental health services for 12 years. She is the Director of Military Services at Long Island Center for Recovery. Her prior experience includes working in inpatient, outpatient, and non-profit settings with clients experiencing posttraumatic stress, addiction, family conflict, and other mental health challenges. She has concentrated on advanced program development and clinical education, locally and nationally. She continues to provide evidence-based and interactive style presentations to hospitals, non-profits, and corporate agencies, in an effort to raise awareness of current trends and improve competency within the healthcare community.
