Workshop Description

This presentation will be based upon the four areas of Veterinary Social Work, which have been defined by the University at Tennessee, Knoxville to include, Animal-Related Grief and Bereavement, Compassion Fatigue and Conflict Management, Animal-Assisted Interventions and The Link between Human and Animal Violence. The presentation will also work to provide an understanding and identify the importance of the Human and Animal Bond. Furthermore, the suicide risk among veterinary professionals is high. Information will be included about risk factors and tips for suicide prevention. The information about suicide risk and prevention with be discussed more in depth with information around compassion fatigue.  

 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define the Human and Animal Bond and understand it’s importance in relation to veterinary social work.
  • Understand and Define the Four Areas of Veterinary Social Work
  • Gain knowledge of increased risk of Suicide among Veterinary Professionals and Prevention
  • Apply new knowledge in professional settings to better servce individuals and families

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.

Alyssa Pepe, LMSW, is currently employed as a Veterinary Social Worker at Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center. Alyssa earned her MSW at the University at Buffalo and has a Bachelors in Psychology and Sociology from Canisius College. Prior to working in Veterinary Social Work, Alyssa worked in Community Mental Health providing Substance Use and Mental Health treatment to individuals, couples and groups. .
