Workshop Description

This two-hour presentation will provide an overview of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Exposure and Ritual Prevention (EX/RP) therapy as a treatment method. The presentation will give attendees a firm understanding of what OCD is, what OCD is not, and how to assess an individual for OCD. Next, common treatments for OCD will be reviewed and demonstrated, focusing on EX/RP for OCD. We will review treatment principles, how and why EX/RP works, and how to deliver EX/RP in a therapeutic setting. The presentation will also cover why client education about OCD and the involvement of a client’s family and social circle are so important.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a clear definition of what OCD is, including its causes and how to assess an individual for OCD.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of EX/RP therapy for OCD including the principles upon which it is founded and the supporting evidence for its effectiveness for OCD, and how to do EX/RP therapy in a therapeutic setting.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of how to do EX/RP therapy in a therapeutic setting.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the importance of education about OCD for both a client and a client’s family and social circle, and the positive impact that that education has on treatment.
