Event Description

Social Work is a business with many opportunities. Agency-based work is not the only option. Perhaps you are new to the field or pivoting from agency-based social work. Do you have an entrepreneurial spirit? Do you see yourself starting your own practice or agency? Attend this panel discussion to explore growing business opportunities in successful social work practice, and learn how utilize one’s existing social work knowledge and develop new skills.

Eva Forde, MSSW, is an author, educator, entrepreneur, business coach, and master's level social worker. Eva received her Bachelors of Social Work from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, and her Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University in New York, NY. In her 20+ year career, she has worked with various populations including victims of domestic violence and abuse, survivors of torture due to war, persons at the end-stage of life, persons living with HIV/AIDS, members of the LGBTQ community, young people in transition to adulthood, adult learners in university, and with high performing executives and teams in organizations. A native of Alabama, USA, her passion for international social service and diversity led her to move to her mother’s home of Jamaica in 2005 where she initially served as the head of the Social Work Program at Northern Caribbean University until 2011. While there she founded Rich Social Worker with the mission to elevate social workers ' collective experience with money and wealth so that they can take better care of themselves and the people, causes, and communities they care most about. In 2020 Eva ended her tenure as the longest-serving President of the Jamaica Association of Social Workers. Her years within the space of leadership and coaching have made her a sought-after speaker and trainer within the social work space. And her 2013 publication, How NOT to Practice Social Work: Saving Good People from Bad Practice One Step at a Time, has been hailed as a “must-read for burgeoning social workers” by various social work programs around the world. Dr. Kim Evanoski, Ed.D, CMC, MPA, LMSW, is the CEO/Owner, of an innovative care management company in Upstate New York serving a 20-county regional area. Kim is privileged to provide services in healthcare, social work, public administration, education, and care management to elders, individuals with disabilities, care partners, and families living in New York State. Her passion is to promote care partnership, to encourage care partner wellness and education, and to build professional collaborations that use a person-directed care service model. Kim has over 30 years of experience, with an Education Doctorate in Executive Leadership (Ed.D.) degree as well as holds a Masters in Public Administration and a Masters in Social Work. She is a nationally certified Care Manager with Advanced Professional status as an Aging Life Care Expert. Kim completed the New York University's Silver Social Work Leadership Fellowship [2013-2015] in Palliative and End-of-Life Care through the Zelda Foster Studies Program, nationally recognized to improve palliative and end-of-life care (PELC) for patients and families, especially diverse and under-served populations. Kim currently serves on local, regional, and national committees to improve the lives of elders and their care partners because she believes that lifetime care needs whole-community support. Kim is a Co-Founder of The Memory Maker Project and a Certified TimeSlips Facilitator, supporting innovative cultural arts access as another important doorway to compassionate community care for individuals who are memory challenges.

CaTyra Polland, is a 9x published author, serial entrepreneur, certified editor, and statewide speaker. Her ambition garnered her recognition as a 2018 Rochester Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree and a national Point of Light honoree. CaTyra, a service leader and community pillar founded the Literacy Love Scholarship for high school students in Rochester, NY. As a professional committed to supporting and creating platforms for Black authors and writers, she launched Editor Knows Best, an international podcast for literary creatives. CaTyra’s mission is to promote literacy, empower others, and see that her wildest dreams come to fruition.
