Workshop Description

It is estimated that 17-19% of the older adult population misuse substances. This substance misuse can create or exacerbate medical, cognitive, or behavioral challenges in the older adults’ life. Older adults have been affected by the opioid epidemic and we will discuss these issues. This training will discuss the challenges, characteristics and some best practices for older adult substance misuse.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Identify three challenges of substance misuse as an older adult.
  • Increase understanding of how older adults have been affected by the opioid epidemic.
  • Identify three coping skills and/or resources that can assist older adults who misuse substances.

This workshop is approved for 1.5 continuing education credit hours.
