Workshop Description

While the crime of human trafficking is understood to be the second-largest criminal industry; familial trafficking represents one of the most severe forms of human trafficking and often goes unidentified. This presentation will give an understanding of what human trafficking is within our communities and the appropriate ways to respond as a service provider. Additionally, furthermore, the workshop will assist learners in understanding the unique need typology of familial trafficking and how to best serve these survivors. Familial trafficking occurs in about 31% of the minor sex-trafficking cases and 41% of the minor human trafficking cases, however most of this is the most underrepresented victim population and is occurring in all 50 states. Attendees will understand the impact of familial trafficking on the survivor and be able to take away practical tools to address the needs of survivors. 

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• Define human trafficking using the federal definition.
• Identify the different typologies of human trafficking. 
• List specific needs of familial trafficking survivors.
• Develop strategies for working with and identifying survivors of familial trafficking.
• Apply trauma informed skills to survivors in the community.

Presenter:

Christine Cesa, MAICS, is a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters in Intercultural Studies with Children at Risk and Ashland University with Bachelors of Science in Education. Christine currently serves as the Private Sector Engagement Associate with ECPAT-USA and formerly served as the survivor advocate with CAST LA and Dignity Health responding to victims of violence and survivors of human trafficking; providing emergency services to survivors in the Healthcare system. Christine is certified in the Ending the Game curriculum. Christine is a survivor of (CSEC) the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children, specifically familial trafficking. Christine has partnered with Polaris and the State Department to write a fact sheet for the TIP report in 2021 on Familial Trafficking. Christine has also trained healthcare systems and spoken at conferences such as National Conference on Ending Sexual Exploitation, Crimes Against Women, and other similar presentations. Christine is an advocate and trainer regarding Human Trafficking and exploitation since 2015.
