Workshop Description

Worthy: Helping Children Be Their Healthiest Weight is intended to help social workers reframe the obesity epidemic for caregivers, through the lens of kindness and hope. Caregivers’ need for support has reached a critical point, in caring for a child who is gaining too much weight, too fast. This presentation will provide real life solutions for preventing depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and poor body image in children experiencing obesity.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Help caregivers determine a child's healthiest weight during the obesity epidemic and Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Identify caregiver's opportunities and barriers for promoting body positive conversations and environments for children.
  • Explain how promoting empathy, compassion, and kindness can relieve anxiety, fears, and shame when children are gaining too much weight too fast.
  • Determine practical key steps to help caregivers of children with obesity reframe the obesity epidemic through the lens of kindness, hope, and compassion.

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.
