Workshop Description

Traditionally our pedagogy does not include anti-oppressive language and Leaders and Psychotherapists do not learn how to rid our practices of power and privilege. This is a way of thinking that we have to actively apply to our modalities and methods. We will learn how to define anti-oppression for ourselves and delve into ways to integrate strategies into our programming for staff, coworkers, and clients.

Learning Objectives

After the completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define Anti-oppressive practices.
  • Identify ways social work and mental health practices are harmful to clients and communities.
  • Illustrate and assess power and privilege in ourselves and organizations
  • Determine when racial trauma, ableism, Islamophobia, transphobia, and more are showing up in practice or programming.
  • Explain problematic systems in USA history that contribute to oppression in mental health.

This workshop is approved for 2.0 continuing education credit hours.
